Imagine your first acting role.

How would you feel?

Fear

Excitement

Emotional

Sounds easy, but there’s more to acting than meets the eye.

Here in this interview I have with Temuera Morrison one of New Zealand’s Maori Actors, he explains the advise he gave to help Stan Walker, take action with his first acting role in the movie Mt Zion.

Like anything we do in life it takes time. There is no fast way to make it to the top, we all have to start somewhere.

Take me, it took years, but today it’s much more easier. You have the power to do anything you want as long as you have the passion and determination.

Use Your Own Determination

Having the experience of a mentor Temuera Morrison who knew Laurence Olivier and worked with the likes of Marlon Brando, Curtis Stone in “Once were Warriors” and many more fellow actors, we can learn from their experience.

If you’re wanting to start your own online attraction and don’t know where to start, check out the platform.

Oh and by the way. Temuera mentioned he got an A for Absent when he went to school. No worries I got a D for Dumb, who would have thought?

If you liked this video. Share it out.

Now I’d like to hear from YOU. What advise can you offer to new aspiring actor or what are your fears.

As a musician are you finding a shortage of live venues to play at.

Do you feel more venues are closing down?

Well I know how this feels when the doors close on another venue.

This was one of the last gigs Penny played @ the Harp as the doors closed down…

As the Doors Closed Down

Tuesday Nites, Dennis ran a musicians nite @ the Harp.

Both myself and Penny (my daughter) would show up and offer our support. We had fun and enjoyed the networking. It was our nite out and when the day came the venue was no longer supporting these nites, was a sad one.

Now I don’t know if you have ever had this happen to you, but I feel we need venues like this to give our up and coming muso’s a place to play.

It takes dedication to put these nites on, but it’s worth it.

It was great to catch up with my Mother over 2012 New year.

During the course of our conversation we spoke about my first guitar lesson.

My mum recalled how she started me on a three chord structure.

As we talked I got more of an image, how I had such a passion for playing the guitar and why the three chord basic structure has helped me with my songwriting.

As a musician at times you can lack passion.

Lose interest in performing.

You once had determination, then all of a sudden it’s gone.

All that effort and time, doesn’t seem to matter.

So what happens?

You Give UP

It’s not that you don’t want to stop playing or the will power you once had.

If you’re playing gigs at venues, and some manager Rips you Off. This can have a sociological affect, mentally, physical and.spiritual.

If your expectations are too high, you may be setting yourself up for disappointment.

How do you get the passion back?

(MOTIVATION, PASSION and Take ACTION) are my key ingredient no matter how you’re feeling. The real secret is, having the determination, putting the effort and time back into what you enjoy.

Then

Stick with what you love

Don’t give up on what you believe in

When times are tough you still keep going

When you’re giging at venues? Someone comes up,and compliments you. It makes you” FEEL on top of the Moon.”

PS: Hey you know what at times, my passion gets pretty low.

Leave a comment and let us know how you’re feeling?

Hey You.

Are you listening. I’m talking to You.

Yeah You

What’s so great about playing guitar by ear?

You don’t have to depend on sheet music

You can pick a tune and play it straight away

Tune your guitar to any tuning

It’s no accident that many self-taught guitarist learn’t from listening to other musicians by ear.

It’s also no coincidence that many guitarist who have the ability to play by ear, have learn’t a valuable skill. Even if you don’t have any musical background.

Copy What You Hear

The note is what you hear that sticks inside your head. You then duplicate or copy that sound onto your instrument.

Past experience playing by ear. An example when I was 12 yrs old my guitar teacher Spooks taught me my first song “Guitar Boogie”

He played his guitar with his back facing me so I couldn’t see where his fingers were. Then he turned to watch me play and find the notes on the fretboard.

It didn’t stop there. I’d practice everyday, rain, hail, or snow. (Only Kidding)

Train Your Ear

Assuming you already know how to basically play a note or chord on the guitar

Choose a simple song. (3 chord song)

Listen to the song and try to find the chord. Then when you feel you have the right chord, proceed with listening to the rest of the song, bit by bit.

The more you practice this technique, it then becomes easier.

I was improvising before I was reading music. I was just trying to play things on the clarinet by ear. I think my ear is one of my greatest assets.
Pete Fountain

The Secret of All These Famous Guitarist’s: They all Played By Ear

Robert Johnson

Jimi Hendrix

Ben Harper

Eric Johnson

Ritchie Blackmore

Are you failing at promoting your music online.

Unfortunately

You’re Not Alone

Professional Artists have the luxury of marketing teams to help promote them online

A few suggestion you can try

Start a blog post

Use social media Facebook, twitter to start conversations

Network with other musicians you never know what might eventuate

Take Ben Harper he would have started off as a struggling musician, he never gave up. It’s not going to be easy I can testify to that. Everything you need is out there, maybe you need to try a different approach, how you find it.

If you know one of your Fans ask them to spread the word about YOU.

Music doesn’t lie. If there is something to be changed in this world, then it can only happen through music.

Jimi Hendrix

Here’ s What You Can Do

Look at your marketing plan then

I first bought my Fender Stratocaster guitar in 1979

Back then it cost $1,200.

The guitar was black and over the years the paint work has worn out, through wear and tear. However, the wood grain looks perfect.

I’ve had no problems with my strat, In-fact the sound and tone, mellows with age, just like, the older the wine the better the taste.

It all comes down to how well you look after your instrument.

What sets the Fender Stratocaster apart

Double cutaway body – Design & quality

Top cut-away is longer than the bottom, give’s you great balance

3 pick ups selected by switch control gives you different tone settings. Which in fact gives you the Fender Stratocaster signature, tone, sound, shape.

In my opinion, I still prefer to play the Strat with it’s smooth curved neck, solid body, perfect action, tone, sound & Feel

The Designer

Designed in 1954 by Leo Fender, Freddie Tavares and George Fullerton

The Fret board you can have a choice of timber made in 3 variations, Maple, Ebony, Rosewood

The guitar has 3 high standard quality pickups and a single coil. Made with alnico magnets.

Warning

Each American strat standard series has a stamped serial number located on the headstock or end of the guitar neck. You can call Fender to verify if you are unsure, to see if the serial numbers are authentic.

Clean & Maintain your Guitar

Treat your guitar with the up most respect.

Every-time you finish playing, performing or whatever, clean your guitar with a highly recommended guitar polish, wipe down your strings with Tone finger ease guitar string lubricant, use a clean cloth.

Never leave your guitar lying around, when you finish playing, put it away. Don’t leave your guitar in the Sun. Check for any loose screws, turning machine heads, scratch plates & strap pins. When tightening your screws, don’t over tighten.

Failure to keep your instrument clean can cause expensive loss and damage.

When I was in School.

The teachers message seem to go through one ear and out the other side.

The information never sunk in.

However, there was one topic that did interest me, music.

I enjoyed playing the guitar.

I would take my guitar to School and practice in my recess breaks.

My Goal

To be a better guitarist. I would practice, practice and practice, until my finger’s bled to the bone.

With all my practice and passion, it’s been a hard struggle as a musician to make a career out of music.

Twenty years on

Finally realising music wasn’t working. I started to re-educate myself and set new goals.

Like all things in this world, you have to be prepared to work hard and improve your skills, mentally, physically and spiritually. Have a positive attitude and believe in what you can achieve.

Why

Smart people plan their goals

Know exactly what your goal is

Goal setting is a powerful motivational tool, write it down and take Action

What’s stopping you

Procrastination stop’s you from doing what you want to do?

<ins><ins id="aswift_1_anchor"></ins></ins> “Obstacles are those frightful things you see when you take your eyes off your goal” Henry Ford

You feel like quitting, don’t know what you want. Negative emotions appear, you realise, I can’t do this. By changing the way you think, yes you can achieve anything.

Without goals you have no direction. Have you ever felt like this? If you like this posts, share it out or comment below, thank you.
